In addition to energy audits, which are a pure service offering, Proesis carries out technical studies for its clients in various fields. These study services are based on our software tools, whether commercialized or not. For example: steam network reliability, investment studies, or waste heat recovery.

Reliability of Network Balance Sheets

When a site follows an ISO 50001 approach, balance discrepancies on networks (steam, fuel gas, electrical, or others) are not concealed as they could be in the past, or as is still done in energy accounting balances (by choosing a consumer that "absorbs" the entire balance delta, with tank heating often playing this role for steam balances).
To improve the reliability of balances on any given network, we have developed methods to identify the sensor problems potentially responsible for the balance discrepancy.
This is an in-house tool that we deploy for steam networks (the most common case) as well as for fuel or other networks.

Investment studies

Our PLANENER models and energy planning models (POWERFULL) have been described as digital twins that are used in mathematical systems to perform real-time or multi-period optimization.
These models (already in use or to be developed as part of the study) can be used to explore investment ideas. The prospective investment is added to the model, and precise scenarios can be run to assess the economic and ecological value of the investment, over a chosen horizon with a chosen time step.

For example:

  • Studying the value of investing in an electric boiler in a utility production plant: from the model to which the envisaged boiler has been added, along with hourly electricity price scenarios, we calculated over the desired periods the electric boiler's utilization rate, carbon savings, financial savings, etc.

  • Studying the value of a water storage tank

  • Studying a heat pump (HP) investment

  • Studying mechanical vapor recompression, the installation of ejectors, etc.

Waste heat recovery

Following energy audits, there sometimes remain non-integrated flows that present high enthalpy but temperatures too low to be recovered through pinch analysis, or flows that are intermittent.
For this type of flow, we can carry out studies to recover this waste heat:

  • Through the installation of hot water storage for low-calorie and/or intermittent flows

  • Through a study on the installation of heat pumps (very high temperature or not), particularly on low-temperature steam flows at constant or near-constant condensation temperature (solvent condensation, for example).
